Stephane Sessegnon hails Fraizer Campell's impact at Sunderland
The Benin international believes he and the former Manchester United man can form an effective partnership in attack under Martin O'Neill
By Michael Lightfoot
The former Manchester United forward has netted two goals in as many appearances following his comeback from an 18-month injury layoff, his latest strike came in style after his dipping volley inspired Martin O'Neill's side to a 3-0 win over Norwich City.
Sessegnon told the Sunderland Echo: "Fraizer’s a player who it’s really easy to play alongside.
"He’s very quick and likes the ball at his feet, rather than on his head – a bit like me.
"Also, he allows me to drop a bit deeper into the middle of the park because he likes to play on the last man.
"We seem to complement each other and we’ve both scored last night so it looks good."
Sessegnon admits it is difficult for players to make an instant impact following a long-term injury, but the forward hailed Campbell for his performances since his return.
Sessegnon added: "The first goal was quite special because there wasn’t much on. Fraizer hit the ball really well. Then he played a big part in my goal by putting in a great cross.
"He’s worked really hard to get back and played really well in his first match at the weekend.
"He has managed to recover and given his maximum for the team again last night. After such a long time injured, it’s difficult to start coming back into games.
"But he’s a player who loves playing and that’s helped him. I’m really happy for him."

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.
"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."
Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
