thumbnail Hello,

The big striker said he wants to focus on making the England squad for the 2012 European Championships and isn't interested in an UAE switch

Al Jazira coach Frank Vercauteren has revealed his club made an approach for English striker Bobby Zamora during the January transfer window.

The UAE champions have managed 32 goals in 12 Pro-League games this term, but the Belgian boss revealed he had enquired about Zamora's availability, before he ended up moving from Fulham to QPR.

However, Vercauteren admitted the deal never got off the ground, with the player not interested as he focusses on his national team hopes with the 2012 European Championships coming up.

“There were around 10 names and Zamora was one of them,” Vercauteren told reporters.

“But they were just proposals and discussions, which is normal when the deadline of a transfer period approaches.”
