Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp pleased with additions of veterans Louis Saha & Ryan Nelsen
The Spurs boss snapped up the French forward from Everton on deadline day, with the experienced centre-back set to follow as a free agent, both on six-month deals
By George Ankers
The French striker, 33, arrived at White Hart Lane on a free transfer in one of the latest deals on the final night of business and the New Zealand centre-back is expected to arrive as a free agent in the coming days, having agreed to terminate his contract at Ewood Park.
Redknapp was keen to welcomeboth players, telling reporters of Saha: “He's got good movement, can score goals but probably needs a change.
“He [was] out of contract at the end of the year so [Everton manager] David Moyes has let him go.
“I can remember speaking to [Manchester United defender] Rio Ferdinand and he said he was the best forward he'd played against.”
Spurs moved to recruit 34-year-old Nelsen after unsettled centre-back Sebastien Bassong was granted his wish for first-team football with a loan move to Wolves, and Redknapp confessed a long-time admiration for the experienced defender.
“I think he's a great competitor and a good sort to have at your club,” he declared.
“I have always liked him.”
A 3-1 home win over Wigan in the Premier League sealed a pleasing evening for the Tottenham boss, with leaders Manchester City’s loss to Everton meaning that the north Londoners are just five points off top spot.

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.
"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."
Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
