Reading have confirmed the loan signing of QPR’s Matthew Connolly until the end of the season.

Connolly, 24, has made just six appearances in the Premier League for the Hoops, two of which were against Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, his new manager Brian McDermott is delighted with the capture, insisting he is a solid signing after being a mainstay in the QPR side that won promotion from the Championship last season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: "He can play anywhere in the back four and we think this is a really good signing.

"He's played a number of games in the Premier League this year and played more than 30 times with Kaspars [Gorkss, former QPR defender who also joined Reading] last year.

"I remember him as a youngster at Arsenal, Bournemouth, he's been a utility player and he's just the job at 24."

Elsewhere at Reading, Goal.com understands Bongani Khumalo is set to return to parent club Tottenham after an unsuccessful loan at the club, making just six appearances, and will be moved on to another club on a temporary deal.
