Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye hit with violent conduct charge by the FA
The Frenchman has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge, which relates to an incident in Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Brighton and Hove Albion
By Joe Wright
The French playmaker was involved in an altercation with Brighton defender Adam El-Abd during the Seagulls’ 1-0 win in their FA Cup encounter on Saturday.
Cabaye appeared to kick out at El-Abd as the two fell to the floor, and although referee Lee Probert failed to notice the incident, the FA have decided to charge the former Lille ace.
A statement on the FA's website read: “Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has been charged with violent conduct following an incident in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Brighton Hove Albion.
“Cabaye was involved in an incident involving Brighton's Adam El-Abd during the FA Cup tie at the Amex Stadium on Saturday 28 January.
“Cabaye has until 6pm on Tuesday 31 January 2012 to respond to the charge.”
The news will come as a bitter blow to Alan Pardew, as the Magpies' squad continues to dwindle with the transfer deadline just over 24 hours away.
With Cabaye now set for an automatic three-game suspension and Cheik Tiote away on international duty with the Africa Cup of Nations, Pardew may well look to bolster his ranks before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday.
