The Black Cats have been open about their interest in the 34-year-old, but the Trotters boss says his captain remains a big part of his plans in the fight to avoid the dropOwen Coyle insists Kevin Davies will not be leaving Bolton before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, despite serious interest from Sunderland.
Black Cats boss Martin O’Neill confirmed his interest in Davies over the weekend as he looks to bolster his attacking options, while QPR and Fulham have also been linked with a move for the 34-year-old.
But despite finding regular first team opportunities hard to come by in recent times, Coyle is adamant that Davies still has a huge role to play in helping Bolton avoid the drop.
“There is always going to be speculation when good players are not in the starting XI,” the Scot told reporters.
“There was a story the other day regarding Sunderland, and on the back of that Martin rang me and said there was an interest, what was the situation?
“I was up front and honest and told him Kevin was a big part of my plans.
“I don’t want Kevin going anywhere; Kevin knows that because we’ve had that chat.”
