Swansea City winger Nathan Dyer hoping for England call-up
The 24-year old Englishman is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former team-mates Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale by being selected to play for his country
By John Stammers
The 24-year-old is yet to be selected by the national coach, but is hoping that recent goalscoring displays for the Swans against Arsenal and Aston Villa have attracted the attention of the Italian.
He told the Daily Star: "I said three years ago that in five years I wanted to be in the Premier League and playing for England.
"So hopefully England is on the way. It's always been a big ambition of mine and it's nice for people to talk about it."
Dyer went on to discuss former team-mates Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale, who he played with at Southampton before moving to Swansea, admitting that he has taken longer to develop than the duo but maintaining that the best is yet to come.
He added: "I was older than them but I've always thought some people develop quicker than others.
"Gareth [Bale] shot up so quickly it was ridiculous.
"I remember when we were younger I could knock it past and run. I could never do that now though.
"He got into the first team straight away and got his move to Tottenham, and the same with Theo [Walcott] going to Arsenal.
"I felt like I was a bit left behind but knew I wasn't at that level yet. I wasn't playing consistently or well for Southampton.
"I knew I was going to become a good player but it would take time. Now I'm starting to hopefully get to my best."
