Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill weighs up bid for Besiktas striker Hugo Almeida - report
The Portuguese international has scored seven times in 15 matches this season, but has reportedly fallen out with his current club and could welcome a move to a Premier League side
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is weighing up a bid for Besiktas striker Hugo Almeida, according to the Sunderland Echo.
The Portugal international, 27, has fallen out with the Turkish side over financial issues and could be eager for a Premier League switch.
The attacker, who has scored seven times in 15 appearances this season, has been valued at £3 million by his current club, but the Black Cats favour a six-month loan deal, as do Everton who are also interested in the former Werder Bremen man.
The North East club has been rejuvenated since the former Aston Villa manager took over as manager at the Stadium of Light, but the Northern Irishman is still rumoured to be looking for an addition to his strike force as his numbers dwindle.
O’Neill is also reportedly considering a transfer bid for Bolton Wanderers forward Kevin Davies, who is out of contract in the summer at the Reebok Stadium.
Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner, who is on-loan from Arsenal for the campaign, is currently sidelined with a facial injury, while Asamoah Gyan remains loaned out to UAE club Al-Ain.
