Reading complete signing of Jason Roberts from Blackburn Rovers
Royals announce transfer of veteran striker to a one-and-a-half-year deal after 34-year-old fell out of favour at Ewood Park following the goal scoring exploits of Yakubu
by Nathan Lowe
The former Wigan striker is expected to slot straight into the squad for Saturday's home match against Bristol City after being assigned squad number 33.
The club reports the agreement of an 18-month contract with the 34-year-old, though no other terms have been released.
Reading chairman Sir John Madjeski was delighted with the signing of such an experienced top-flight player after making 210 appearances in the Premier League with four different clubs; West Brom, Portsmouth, Wigan and Blackburn.
"I am delighted that a man of Jason Roberts' calibre has decided to sign for Reading Football Club," he told the club's official website,
"He will bring enormous experience to the club, and I wish him every success in helping his new teammates."
