QPR's Anton Ferdinand to seek club advice over handshake with Chelsea captain John Terry - report

QPR defender Anton Ferdinand has the sought the club’s advice over whether or not to accept a handshake from Chelsea's John Terry in the side’s upcoming FA Cup fourth round fixture, according to reports.

England captain Terry has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence against Ferdinand following the Premier League clash between the two sides in October.

Rangers owner Tony Fernandes is keen to draw a line under the incident and ensure that it does not inflame any future meetings between the two.

And while Terry is reportedly willing to go ahead with the proposed handshake, Ferdinand is said to have not yet fully made up his mind, with the club not set to pressurise the former Sunderland man into any reconciliation.

The two clubs have issued a joint statement, however, urging for calm ahead of the clash at Loftus Road on Saturday as they look to quash any tension and supporter unrest before the game.

“Discrimination has no place in football or society,” the statement reads.

“Both clubs enjoy fantastic support. However we would remind fans that, while we want to hear their passion, hatred and abuse is not what being a fan of QPR or Chelsea is about.

The clubs will work together with the police to ensure that anyone using discriminatory or inflammatory language is identified and that the strongest possible action is taken against them.”

In a further twist, it has since been revealed that Ferdinand has been called back in for further questioning by the police over the matter.

Although the QPR centre-back did not make the actual complaint that has since triggered the police inquiry, he has co-operated fully with their investigation.

John Terry has denied any wrongdoing and it is believed that his legal team will enter a plea of ‘not guilty’ ahead of their preliminary hearing of the case.
