The Blues are reported to have watched the young midfielder in action against Marseille, despite manager Andre Villas-Boas suggesting that cup-tied players do not interest him
Chelsea are believed to have watched Eden Hazard in action for Lille, prompting further speculation concerning their interest in the midfielder.
According to The People, Stamford Bridge technical director Michael Emenalo watched the 21-year-old play in the recent 2-0 defeat to Marseille in Ligue 1.
Blues' boss Andre Villas-Boas recently pointed out that cup-tied players would not be in the best interests of Chelsea, and Hazard is in that position since he played six times for the French side in the group stage of this season's Champions League.
Since making his Ligue 1 debut in November 2007, the Belgian has now made 173 appearances for Lille in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and supplying 28 assists.
Hazard is thought to have expressed an intention to stay at Lille for the remainder of the season, amid reports that he is being pursued by Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
