David Moyes calls for Everton to improve 'in every department' after Blackburn draw

Everton manager David Moyes has called for an improvement in every department of his squad after they failed to overcome relegation threatened Blackburn Rovers at Goodison Park.

The game finished 1-1 after Tim Cahill’s first goal in 34 games was cancelled out by David Goodwillie and Moyes felt his side deserved nothing more although he was delighted with the performance of Shane Duffy on just his second Premier League start.

“I think we were fortunate to get a point,” Moyes said in his post-match press conference.

“I think Blackburn certainly had the better of the first half and we were fortunate to go in half-time one-up but I hoped although it wasn’t one of our better days once we had it [the lead] we would hold on to it.

“I think today we just needed one of our better players to step-up and make things happen for us but I though Shane Duffy had a terrific game for us. Arguably our best player today and he is just a young boy.

“We just needed a bit more in every department.”

Blackburn on the other hand have been in good form of late and remain outside the relegation zone though with Everton’s opener appearing to hit Marouane Fellaini in the build-up, manager Steve Kean refused to criticise the referee.

“I think Everton scored against the run of play,” Kean said in his post-match press conference.

“I’ve looked at the goal again and I think it was hard for the referee because he is not in a great position. We have seen it from the bench, it coming off his chest first and it’s just been moved by his arm, but it’s tough for the ref because he wasn’t in the best position.

“I said to the lads at half-time we didn’t need to change too much because I felt we were dictating the play and minimising the threat of Tim Cahill pushing on.

“We just had to get the ball out-wide a bit earlier to Hoilett and get Olsson doubling up on Phil Neville and I think we did that much better in the second-half.”

Kean was again without Chris Samba, the giant defender having recently seeing a transfer request turned down and the Blackburn boss revealed he was fit to play despite being dropped.

“It was a tough week for him, because we had a couple of bids for him from one club," he added.

“We have put out a strong statement but he handed in a transfer request and put those things together I thought it was best he wasn’t involved today. This is the last game before the window closes, and he will be back in next week and then we can move on.”
