Tottenham to open contract talks with winger Aaron Lennon – report
The 24-year-old's current deal does not expire until 2014 but Spurs hope to extend his stay at White Hart Lane by at least two years to avoid being forced to sell for a reduced fee
Tottenham are set to open talks with Aaron Lennon over a contract extension that will extend his stay at the club until 2016, according to the Daily Express.
Lennon's current deal, signed in 2009, does not expire until 2014, but Spurs are keen to add at least two further years to that contract.
They are also reportedly prepared to give him a £10,000-a-week pay rise, taking his earnings to £55,000-a-week.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy witnessed how Arsenal were forced to sell the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri or risk losing them for free when their contracts expired last summer, and is keen to avoid a similar situation at White Hart Lane, it is claimed.
Lennon has spent some time sidelined with injury this season but has returned to the line-up for Tottenham's last two Premier League matches against Everton and Wolves, scoring against the former.
