QPR have reportedly agreed a fee with Chelsea for the Brazilian defender Alex as Mark Hughes moves swiftly to secure his January targets.
Hughes only took control at Loftus Road earlier this week but has identified the Chelsea defender who was placed on the transfer list at Stamford Bridge as a potential signing.
QPR owner Tony Fernandes has promised Hughes cash to spend in the window and has moved quickly to back his new manager with a bid for the defender.
The 29-year-old handed in a transfer request earlier on in the season after growing frustrated at his lack of opportunities at the club under manager Andre Villas-Boas and is now expected to head to Loftus Road to begin talks over personal terms.
Alex came to the Premier League in 2007, despite signing for Chelsea in 2004 but had to spend three years on loan at Dutch giants PSV due to issues with a work permit. However, he will be seen as a real coup for QPR as they look to pull away from the relegation zone.
