Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle rubbishes reports that captain Kevin Davies is set to move to West Ham
The Scot has denied having any conversation with Sam Allardyce about the influential striker and has said the 34-year-old still has an important role to play at the club
By Michael Lightfoot
The 34-year-old has been used as a bit-part player this season but the Scot is not interested in letting him follow Allardyce - who brought him to the Reebok Stadium back in 2003.
It is not the first time the striker has been linked with a move to the Hammers this season but Coyle insists the player still has a pivotal role to play in the club's fight against relegation from the Premier League.
He told reporters: "Kevin Davies is my captain and a big part of our plans, as he always has been.
"Aside from his footballing abilities, Kevin is an outstanding man.
"He is a leader and a bit of speculation doesn't change that.
"There is nothing factual in the West Ham link. I have had no dialogue with Sam."
Coyle will turn to Davies for this weekend's game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, knowing that a player of his standing will help his team when they play the champions.
He added: "You need players with big hearts, that are brave enough to get on the ball, pass and move and who can go into arenas like Old Trafford and perform.
"Kevin is one of those."
