QPR boss Mark Hughes has revealed he is interested in signing Chelsea defender Alex.

Hughes has only recently joined the club as manager after replacing the sacked Neil Warnock, and is keen to put his own stamp on the team by bringing in players in the January transfer window.

“There is interest in top-quality players and (Alex) is very much in that level," told reporters.

Alex has found himself way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season under Andre Villas-Boas and has recently even been barred from training from the first-team squad after handing in a transfer request in December.

With QPR currently hovering just outside the relegation zone, club owner Tony Fernandes is believed to have handed Hughes a sizeable transfer war chest to use.

Hughes added: “We would hope to bring that quality of player to the club if it was possible. If there are quality players that are attainable we will try to do that.”
