'Nemanja Vidic for Manchester United is like Lionel Messi for Barcelona’ – Serbian’s agent rules out Old Trafford departure
The captain is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury picked up in the Champions League against Basel, and his representative insists he is only focused on recovery
By Joe Doyle
The Serbian has been out of action with a knee injury since the beginning of December, picked up in the 2-1 Champions League defeat to Basel, which also saw United eliminated from the competition.
The former Spartak Moscow player is under contract at Old Trafford until 2014, and despite speculation linking the 30-year-old with a move away from the club in recent months, his representative Silvano Martina insists Vidic's priority is recovering from the injury and featuring for the Red Devils.
"Vidic for Manchester United is like [Lionel] Messi for Barcelona. How could you take him?" he told calciomercato.il.
"He's the United captain and a key player for Sir Alex Ferguson. A move next summer is absolutely not an option.
"The player is only thinking of recovering as soon as possible from his ugly knee injury."
