Manchester City are believed to be considering outbidding Chelsea and Manchester United to acquire the services of Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote.
There have previously been reports of the Ivory Coast international attracting interest from Chelsea and United, with speculation pointing towards a potential bid of about £25 million for his services.
But The Sunday Mirror reports that City have sent scouts to the Africa Cup of Nations to keep an eye on the 25-year-old, who is expected to play alongside Yaya Toure for his national team.
It has also been claimed that manager Roberto Mancini is considering the possibility of outbidding other interested clubs and signing the Ivorian.
Tiote joined Newcastle in 2010, and has made 42 appearances for the Magpies so far.
