Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has revealed he is trying to sign LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane on a two-month loan deal.

The West Midlands side have struggled in front of goal this season, and McLeish hopes the former Tottenham man's presence could bolster his forward line temporarily during the MLS off-season.

The Scotsman also added that the deal could be done over the weekend, but if an agreement is unable to be reached, they will likely end their interest in the striker.

"We're having a look at it and trying to pursue it, so that's the latest, although nothing is actually done and dusted as yet," McLeish told reporters.

"If we don't know by Monday, then it'll probably be not done.

"That's why I don't want to say too much, in case it doesn't happen, but we're certainly pursuing it and at the moment both parties are keen."

Keane is currently training with Spurs until January 20, an arrangement agreed in mid-December before Villa’s interest emerged.
