Former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado is the latest name linked with a move to China after a report claimed several Super League clubs were after his services.

The 36-year-old has been told by current club Blackburn Rovers that he is free to leave during the January transfer window having fallen out of favour under manager Steve Kean.

Skysports has reported that up to four Chinese Super League clubs are in the hunt to land the former Spain international.

Salgado had mentioned in October that this season would be his last in Europe and suggested the Middle East and MLS as potential future destinations for him.

However, China's emergence in the transfer market in recent months, following Shanghai Shenhua's signing of Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea, could tempt Salgado.

The likes of Guti, Amauri and Didier Drogba have also been linked with a switch to the Middle Kingdom.

In December, Kean said: "Michel won't be here next season. If there is an opportunity for him to find another solution in this window that is something we would look at.

"[It is] out of respect for the player to give him the heads up that this will be his last season."
