Manchester United star Wayne Rooney accepts fine of one week's wages after night out with Darron Gibson & Jonny Evans – report
The striker will not take issue with his punishment for poor training performance, as both the club and the player turn their attentions to Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle
Wayne Rooney has accepted a fine of one week’s wages for poor training performance after a Boxing Day night out with Manchester United team-mates Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans, according to BBC Sport.
All three players were reportedly made to train on their own last Wednesday while the rest of the United squad enjoyed a day off, and Rooney is now believed to be focused on proving his fitness and getting back into the team for Wednesday’s trip to take on Newcastle.
It is understood the trio went for a meal on Boxing Day and, while there is no suggestion they broke any club curfew, misbehaved or drank heavily, boss Sir Alex Ferguson was angered by their below-par performances in training the next day.
Sir Alex omitted all three players from his match squad to face Blackburn on Saturday despite the club nursing an already lengthy injury list, and Rovers took full advantage to secure a shock victory at Old Trafford.
