thumbnail Hello,

The 38-year-old is keen on making at least two additions to his Lactics squad next month, but is confident his youth players can step up if he does not land his targets

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is looking to buy at least two players in the January transfer window as he looks to stave off the threat of relegation and keep his side in the Premier League.

The Latics have already registered an interest in Manchester United’s Federico Macheda yet the 38-year-old wants to strengthen his side across the board.

However, if Martinez cannot get the deals that are best for the club he is more than happy to put faith in his side’s youth team to make the step up.

"We've got a very good idea of what's needed and we could do with a couple of new players in certain positions. We'll work hard for that," he told Sky Sports News.

"But if it doesn't happen because we cannot get the players that we want, I'm quite happy to use the youth and the development squad that we've got at the club and make sure we have a very strong second half of the season."

Martinez’ side are currently 18th in the Premier League and have only registered three wins this season.
