Jermain Defoe confident of Tottenham victory ahead of ‘massive’ Chelsea clash

The England striker believes Thursday's meeting will have big ramifications for both sides in the title race, but looks set to miss out on the White Hart Lane match due to injury

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe believes Thursday's clash with Chelsea is a ‘massive’ game for both clubs and their ambitions in the Premier League this season.

The teams are separated by just two points and one place in the table, with third-placed Spurs looking to catch second-placed Manchester United, whilst victory for Andre Villas-Boas' side would seem them overtake Harry Redknapp's men in the standings.

“I think it’s a massive, massive game," Defoe told the club’s official website.

"All we want to do is just keep winning games, keep getting points, always looking forward to the next game.”

The former Portsmouth striker is aware of the threat posed by the west London outfit, and whilst he is set to join Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale on the sidelines for the clash, Defoe is confident Spurs will take all three points at White Hart Lane.

He added: "Chelsea are a good side, we know that. They’re challenging for the same things as us so it’s massive but everyone’s looking forward to it.

"The lads are well prepared, everyone’s ready and it's a game I believe we can win.

"We always play well against Chelsea at home so I’m sure the fans will be buzzing as well. It will be great."
