Everton star Jack Rodwell is expected to hold talks with manager David Moyes in the next two weeks amid interest from Chelsea in a £20 million transfer in January.

The 20-year-old midfielder is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and is also aware of interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Rodwell is under contract at Goodison Park until 2015 and is happy at the club, but he will seek talks with Moyes over his future. The versatile youngster, who can also play in central defence, is keen to push his claim for a place in the England squad for Euro 2012 after making his England debut in November.

Goal.com understands that Chelsea are clear favourites to sign Rodwell and are expected to make a move when the transfer window opens as manager Andre Villas-Boas looks to rejuvenate his squad. The Blues are believed to be prepared to match Everton's £20m asking price for a player who has long been considered one of the hottest prospects in England.

“Jack is ambitious and he will tell that to David Moyes,” a source told Goal.com “If Everton accept an offer, he would be interested in moving to any of the clubs showing an interest. They are all big clubs.”

Sir Alex Ferguson in particular is a huge admirer of Rodwell and considered making a move last summer, but was deterred by the Southport-born man's patchy form last season. United are currently facing a midfield injury crisis and Sir Alex may look to challenge Chelsea and re-ignite his interest in Rodwell.

No firm bids have been made for Rodwell, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem, but Everton are braced for formal offers in the new year. Moyes believes Rodwell would be better off staying on Merseyside but accepted on Tuesday that the club would struggle to reject a substantial bid.

“His development here has been good,” Moyes said. “He came on the scene very early but I’ll always think players will be better served being at Everton.

“I don’t think we’ll be selling because we need the money for the bank or anything like that. But there have been some really big players sold.

“[Cristiano] Ronaldo was sold by United and [Fernando] Torres went to Chelsea. If those players are available then most other clubs will have to be thinking about their players.

“There comes a point where we don’t want to become a club preparing players for other clubs. We’ve tried not to be that [a selling club], but times have changed.”
