Manchester City slam AC Milan’s conduct over Carlos Tevez pursuit

Brian Marwood has revealed that the striker may end up moving elsewhere in the January window, and has criticised the Serie A side's use of the media in the transfer saga

Brian Marwood, the chief football operations officer of Manchester City, insists the club’s position on AC Milan’s pursuit of want-away Argentine Carlos Tevez has not changed.

The Serie A giants are determined to sign the striker in the January transfer window, but have so far only been prepared to offer a loan agreement, something which is not attractive to the Premier League side.

Marwood has also hit out at the Italian club for using the media to conduct their pursuit of the player, with Milan stating they are prepared to wait until the end of the transfer period to sign Tevez - a tactic Marwood suggests could backfire.

“The position regarding Carlos Tevez has not changed,” Marwood insisted to Sky Sports.

“AC Milan came to us with a loan option, which was something that we rejected and that stays the same. Clearly they have decided to conduct their business through the media, which is something we choose not to do and will continue not to do.

“Nothing has changed - Carlos Tevez is still a Manchester City player. I don’t know if he will still be here at the end of the window. Everybody is aware of the situation. His desire is to leave the football club and the club have gone on record as saying we will consider that.

“It just really depends on us receiving something that is acceptable to Manchester City. That’s no different from where we were before, and that will not change.

“We will have to see what the next three or four weeks bring. There are more teams than just AC Milan interested in Carlos Tevez, so if they choose to wait until the end of the window then they may pay a price if other clubs come in before them.”
