Nemanja Vidic insists Manchester United must ‘strive to entertain and win’ in every game they play

After the weekend’s 4-1 win over Wolves ended an uninspiring run of form, the Serbian defender has insisted his side should always put on a spectacle for the Old Trafford crowd

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has insisted the Red Devils always strive to entertain on the pitch, however tough the games may be.

United bounced back from their Champions League elimination with a 4-1 victory over Wolves at the weekend, but it was only the second time since September that they have managed more than two goals in a single game.

Whilst the Premier League champions have largely sustained winning ways during their recent barren spell in front of goal, Vidic has insisted that entertainment – as well as results – are paramount to the players.

Speaking to Inside United, the 30-year-old said: “I know it’s unlikely we will play entertaining football every time we go out on the pitch. We should always try, though.

“Nobody wants to be part of a team that plays boring football. When you come off the pitch you want to be proud of what you’ve done and you want to have entertained the fans.”

Two goals apiece for Nani and Wayne Rooney, the latter's first in eight games for the club, secured the points against Mick McCarthy’s men on Saturday in front of the biggest Premier League crowd of the season.

And Vidic, who could only watch the game from the sidelines after sustaining a season-ending knee injury in the defeat to Basel, was delighted at the show his side put on for the Old Trafford faithful.

“We play for the fans – we don’t play for ourselves,” he added.

“If we can make the fans happy and, at the same time, win games and win trophies, that’s the perfect scenario.

“Sometimes, though, there will be tough games, games that we have to fight for, games that are a struggle.

"But when you’re playing for Manchester United you have to strive to entertain and win.”
