Simon Cox eyes West Brom departure in order to boost chances of making Republic of Ireland Euro 2012 squad

West Brom forward Simon Cox has revealed he may seek a move away from the Hawthorns in search of first-team football, as he looks to make push for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 squad.

With just one starting appearance this season, Cox is aware he needs more playing time if he is to fulfil his ambition of making the trip to Poland and Ukraine next summer.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Cox said: “I’m never happy when I’m not playing, I would like to play more and it might be something I have to look at in the Christmas period.

“I might have to look at what I do but it’ll be decision made then, not anytime soon.

“If that is to happen then it’ll be a decision that suits everyone concerned - myself, my family, the club and if there is a club who would take me on loan or more.

“It’s a decision that’ll be made further down the line. The manager has said some kind things, but if you don’t play then you can’t show what you can do.

“I want to be in the best physical shape possible and in the best mental state to give myself the best chance of getting to the Euros.

“My form has to be good and that will only happen if I’m playing games. So I will have to look at what the manager thinks, what he wants to do - we have the January window coming up and he might want to bring people in himself too.

“Maybe he might think the time is right for me to go somewhere else. Obviously there are still a few weeks to go but we will see how it all unfolds.”

Cox also expressed his eagerness to play any position for the Baggies, and is willing to play elsewhere other than his natural striker role.

“I am happy playing in that role, I played there under [ex-manager] Robbie [Di Matteo] and last season too,” he added.

“Don’t get me wrong, I would love to play in a 4-4-2 as a centre forward but we don’t always play that way.

“And if there is a role for me then it’s about getting into the team and showing what you can do. It’s up to me to get into the side by hook or by crook.”
