The Dane believes a thrifty backline has been crucial to the team’s recovery from their humiliating derby defeat, and admits he’s in awe of the club’s defensive options
Victory over Villa yielded United’s sixth clean sheet in nine matches since the humiliating 6-1 derby defeat to Manchester City back in October, and Lindegaard believes their defensive strength is a quality to be admired.
“We got over that [City] defeat pretty well,” he told reporters. “The 1-0 win over Everton was a crucial win for the season. We’re hopefully starting a wave of good play.
“[Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are] world-class players.
“The competition for those two spots on the team is amazing, it’s scary. They [all the central defenders] are players that could play in most teams in the world.
“When you look back over history, all the great teams have been known for having a fantastic defence and that is very important.
“The quality we have been showing in defence since the Man City game has been scary.”
Lindegaard was also full of praise for youngster Phil Jones, who has impressed for United in a number of positions this season and scored the winner over Villa on Saturday.
“It’s amazing how well he’s been doing in all the positions he’s been playing,” he added.
“No matter what the manager asks of him, he delivers every time.”
