Bolton defender Zat Knight stunned by Gary Cahill red card in defeat to Tottenham
The centre-back believes match official Stuart Attwell will be "kicking himself" after dismissing the England international in controversial fashion on Saturday
By Jamie Dunn
Gareth Bale gave Spurs the lead after seven minutes and shortly after, the centre-back was adjudged to have denied Scott Parker a clear goal scoring opportunity, despite being just inside the Bolton half when the foul took place.
The dismissal left Owen Coyle's side with a mountain to climb, and Knight was adamant Cahill's sending off was the game's turning point.
"I was stunned," Knight said, according to Sky Sports. "I thought he was just going to give him a yellow card.
"I had a word with the referee at half-time. Hopefully he will be looking back at it and he will be kicking himself.
"He said he would look at it again after the game, but it was too late for us. The three points had gone.
"That was the turning point for us. If we had 11 men we would have been able to give them more of a challenge."
The defeat at White Hart Lane left Bolton 19th in the Premier League, but Knight has stood by boss Coyle and has called for his team-mates to deliver the results his manager's hard work deserves.
Knight added: "His training is fantastic. We couldn't ask for a better manager. We've just had back luck in recent games.
"We need to repay the favour back to the manager now because he has been as good as gold to everyone."
