Liverpool midfielder Lucas thankful for messages of support following injury & believes he'll return 'mentally stronger'

After having been sidelined for the rest of the season, the Brazil player is grateful for the heartfelt wishes he has received from the Reds fans and will use it as motivation

Liverpool midfielder Lucas believes he will return from injury “mentally stronger” following the wide-spread support he has received from the fans this week.

Lucas sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage against Chelsea in the League Cup which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old is thankful for all the messages he has received and will use it as his motivation to return to the Reds line-up even quicker.

The Brazil international told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I want to say many thanks to the fans. There are no words I can say to express how much I appreciate all of the messages and positive thinking all of them are sending to me.

"I think I will be stronger mentally as well because it is a difficult time for me, but I will deal with it and I won't give up because it is not part of my character."

"I didn't realise what an impact my injury could make on the fans. A lot of people have been sending me positive messages, and this makes me feel stronger.

Lucas had a difficult time at the club in his first few years at Anfield but has finally reached fruition and believes it’s an unfortunate time for him to pick up the injury.

"I have worked hard to get people to believe in me and my football - and I can see the fans appreciate the work I have done.

"Even in difficult times, I have put my head down and worked really hard to achieve things and try to be an important player for the club.

"Now I will be another fan, supporting the team, watching the games and I am already hoping I will be at Wembley to get a medal."
