Danny Guthrie looking for Newcastle to make a name for themselves against Chelsea

After making a great start to the league season, the Magpies midfielder has claimed they merit their position in the table, and can see them taking something from the Blues
Danny Guthrie is confident that Newcastle have the quality to take something from their game against Chelsea, and he sees it as an opportunity for his side to stand up and be counted.

Newcastle have far exceeded their pre-season expectations, and the Magpies midfielder believes they deserve their league position, yet feels the side need to come away with a win to prove their quality to any doubters.

He told the Sunderland Echo: “If we win [against Chelsea], then people start raising eyebrows, but we just continue taking each game as it comes,

“As I say, we’re there on merit. We’ve been brilliant this season, losing one league game, and our defensive record speaks for itself. That’s the basis of what we’re doing, so long may it continue.

“We’re there on merit – we’re a good team, and people are starting to realise that now.”

Newcastle have endured a tough run of games after visiting Manchester United and Manchester City in their last two fixtures, and have only managed to pick up one point from the two trips.

The lack of points was something that Guthrie thought was unjust and he feels that his side could've picked up more had luck swung their way in both matches.

“We’ve always been confident. We went to Man City, and they won’t play any better than they did that day – they are in top form,” he said.

“If we’d had some luck in that game, we’d have snatched something there

“With 11 men at Man United, we were giving them a game. Chelsea now’s huge for us. We have a good run of fixtures coming up, and we know where Chelsea are at the moment. We need to get at them.”
