Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has commended Liverpool for their battling qualities in the 1-1 draw at Anfield but insists that the Blues' five-point lead over Manchester United at the top of the table, and the fact that they remain unbeaten in the league, is "what matters".
Vincent Kompany had diverted in the opener in the first half from a David Silva corner although Charlie Adam's strike, deflected into his own net by Joleon Lescott, helped the Reds earn a draw in Sunday's game.
Aguero, who has 10 Premier League goals to his name this season, admits that Kenny Dalglish's side "put up a tough fight" but that remaining on top of the pile in the Premier League is the main thing for City.
"Anfield put up a tough fight, but what matters is @MCFC still leads undefeated, 5 points ahead," he Tweeted.
Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, meanwhile, reflected on the point gained for the Merseyside outfit and insists that the focus now moves to Tuesday's League Cup quarter-final clash with Chelsea.
He Tweeted: "We could not get the win althought We tried until the end! We keep summing! Now we have to prepare for Tuesday's game against chelsea! Hugs to all."
Midfielder Lucas, meanwhile, expressed his disappointment at a game he felt the Reds should have won.
He wrote, via Twitter: "Disappoint result today as we has chances to win the game anyway thanks for your support again. YNWA"
