Manchester City midfielder James Milner: I would not mind a 1-0 result against Liverpool

The former Aston Villa man expects a tough game against the Reds at Anfield, and is hoping his side can bounce back from the Champions League defeat they suffered against Napoli

James Milner says he will be happy if Manchester City manage to grab a 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The Merseysiders, currently undefeated in their last seven league games, are enjoying a revival of sorts, after finishing outside the top four in each of the last two seasons.

But Roberto Mancini's men have made a fantastic start to their Premier League campaign, and remain the only unbeaten team in the top-flight, winning 11 and drawing one of their 12 games so far.

They have also been prolific scorers, with 42 goals to their name already at an average of 3.5 per game - although Milner will be pleased enough with any margin of victory at Anfield.

"I'd happily settle for a 1-0 win when we play Liverpool," he said, according to The Observer.

"They have had some good results and we know it's going to be tough. We've just had a disappointing result in Naples so hopefully we can fuel that energy into our next performance."

That midweek Champions League defeat by Napoli has severely dented their chances of qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.

They now have to beat Bayern Munich in the final game of the group stage, and hope that Villarreal - who have lost every game so far - can take points off Napoli.

Milner added: "If we go out of the Champions League that will be a massive disappointment too, but it's always about how you bounce back."
