Three out of four Goal.com readers believe Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is on a par with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

74.9% of our readers voted in favour of the Gunners forward being level with his La Liga counterparts having had a superb start to the season.

The 28-year-old scored a brace in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Champions League opponents Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, and has bagged an incredible 10 goals in his last five Premier League games.

The Dutchman is flying high on 17 goals for the north London club in all competitions this season, having scored 33 goals so far this calendar year.

Van Persie now has a goals-per-game ratio for his club and country in 2011 of 0.88, a figure which is only bettered by Real Madrid’s Ronaldo, who has 53 goals in 55 games.

Not everyone is of the opinion that the former Feyenoord man is up there with the very best players, however, with 25.1% of readers believe the Netherlands attacker is yet to match Messi and Ronaldo.

Do you believe Van Persie is one of the finest players in the world? Or are there others that are a class above the Arsenal striker?

Here is a selection of your comments from the original article:

“Yes RVP is now of the same class with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. I just pray he remains injury free, he will surely score more goals.” - Iyke

“As an Arsenal Fan, I will say no, he is not in the same level. Those two work hard for their goals this season and prior season. They dribble a lot to make their goals. RVP is good at positioning and tapping the ball in..” - Honestly Speaking

“Yes of course robin is in the same class as that of Messi and Ronaldo who could argue more or less?” - Kmx

“Can’t compare them as the EPL has to be the hardest league in the world. The Spanish league can’t compare.” - Lol

“Hopefully he doesn't get injured anytime soon cause he's on fire at the moment. A great asset to Arsenal.. Definitely in the top 5 best strikers in the world. Let’s hope his form can bring Arsenal something this season.. cause they deserve something once in a while!” - John

“No chance! He is on par with Rooney, Aguero, Ibrahimovic ,Villa, etc.” - David

“Quite frankly, no player can do anything without decent players around him. RVP is the first one always to give credit to his teammates. Walcott has been the best he's ever been, and Ramsey is having a great year.” - jko09

“Personally don't think he's quite there, but coming from a Spurs fan, the guy's a class act, miles above every other striker in the Premier League at the moment.” - James

“Funny how a player is only judged by their goal tally no days, there is more to football than just goals.” - Jon
