Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere could return to action for Arsenal at the end of January.

The youngster hasn't played a minute of competitive football this term after picking up an ankle injury in pre-season which has seen complications extend Wilshere's absence.

But Wenger offered hope to Arsenal supporters, telling The Mirror: "The news is good, but he will not be available before the end of January."

It is thought that Wilshere will return to action with Arsenal's reserves in January with a view to a first-team appearance in February as the Gunners return to Champions League action.

Arsenal, despite suffering a catastrophic early loss of form, are doing well and are the only English club to have secured their place in the Champions League knockout rounds following their 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in midweek.

Alex Song starred in that match, including a mazy run and perfect cross to set up Robin van Persie's first and the Cameroonian is looking forward to Wilshere's return.

He told The Guardian: "Jack is a very good player and we need everyone. When we have everyone fit we are more strong and confident.

"We need every player because we have a lot of games. We don't just think about if Jack is coming, everyone has their job to do in the team.

"That is why it is important Jack will come back soon."

Abou Diaby returned to the Arsenal line-up after missing the entire season so far and his comeback to the team will be a relief for Song, who has borne much of the physical brunt in midfield battles this campaign.

"When everyone comes back we will see another Arsenal play." continued Song. "When we started we lost two big players and it was not easy to have players like Cesc [Fabregas] and [Samir] Nasri missing.

"They were big players for us, very important. But in football it happens all the time. You need to forget about it and give confidence to the players we have got."

"Today we are happy about it, we have some players missing like Jack and Abou has come back, [Tomas] Rosicky is injured. When everyone comes back we will be very good and more strong."
