Magpies manager looking to embark on another lengthy run after suffering first defeat of the season against Manchester City last weekend

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has called on his side to make life hard for champions Manchester United in Saturday’s clash at Old Trafford.

The Magpies lost their first game of the season against Manchester City last week and Pardew is keen to get another unbeaten run going to maintain their excellent start to the campaign.

"I wouldn't say it was one to enjoy," Pardew told the Shields Gazette. "For us, it's about getting back on the unbeaten run and looking for the result we need to do that.

"We have to make them work hard for anything they get. It's a difficult-looking game, but so was Man City, and we created chances there.

"With more fortune this time, we'll see what we can produce."

Pardew feels the Red Devils 2-2 draw against Benfica in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday may give his side an advantage as the United players may be feeling the effects of the tight encounter.

He added: "They had a difficult night against Benfica, and we need to maximise everything we can at Old Trafford."
