Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will miss Manchester City showdown, confirms Kenny Dalglish
The England midfielder has had a torrid time dealing with one injury after another so far this season, with no specific return date yet in sight for the 31-year-old

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has not yet recovered from an ankle infection and will miss Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester City, manager Kenny Dalglish has confirmed.
The Reds boss reiterated that he would not set a specific date for the England midfielder, who has been restricted to just two starts and three substitute appearances this season, to return.
Dalglish told the press: “Like we've already said, we are delighted with the progress he's making and we've said that we won't put a date on his return - and we won't put a date on it now.
“We are very happy with his progress.
“Everyone is available apart from Steven and Jack Robinson.”
The 31-year-old Gerrard has had his campaign severely disrupted by injury, having first endured a groin injury that delayed his start to the season, before then contracting the problem in his ankle in late October.
Dalglish also took the opportunity to praise right-back Glen Johnson, who scored a magnificent goal to sink Chelsea in the Reds’ most recent Premier League outing, though he refused to be drawn on whether the 27-year-old should be filling the same berth in Fabio Capello’s England squad.
“Well he's fit. He's playing really well. We are delighted with the way he's been playing,” the Scot added.
“At the moment for us he's in the right-back position and that's the only team we want to pick.
“No-one else tries to pick our team, so why should we pick theirs?”
Meanwhile Dalglish is delighted that his side are in the mix for a Champions League place next season.

However the Scot will not lose sight of the Red’s short-term aims starting with victory against leaders Manchester City on Sunday.
Dalglish told reporters: "As long as we are involved that is all that we are concerned with. Whatever any other club is going to do, we can't do anything about it until we play them.
"We don't need one game to give us an incentive to bite on and look forward to the future.
"We will look a lot further than that. We won't get carried away by one game whether we win it or lose it. We are just looking to progress and build something here that will last for a long time.
"I think we are moving in the right direction. Whether Sunday is a positive result for us or not, it won't be a determining factor in the progress of the football club."
