Newcastle United winger Gabriel Obertan relishing Old Trafford return ahead of clash with Manchester United
The Frenchman spent two seasons with the current Premier League champions following his switch from Bordeaux, and is eager to cause an upset back in the north west
By Joe Wright
Obertan signed for the Magpies this summer after failing to make an impact under United boss Sir Alex Ferguson following a move from Bordeaux in 2009.
Having missed his side’s last two matches with a toe injury, the 22-year-old is desperate to return to haunt his former employers in Saturday's Premier League clash.
"It'll be a great feeling to be back at Old Trafford - hopefully we'll win there," Obertan told the Evening Chronicle.
"I spent two amazing years there, so it'll be great to be on the pitch at Old Trafford again, to go back there and see friends I was with for two years.
"Hopefully, we'll get a good result there - it would be really, really good.
"It's all about Newcastle getting a good result now."
Alan Pardew’s men suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season last weekend, as they went down 3-1 at high-flying Manchester City.
Despite the loss, Obertan claims the team is still full of confidence, and believes they have what it takes to upset the Champions.
"So far, we have played some great football," the former France under-21 international added.
"Our confidence is really high, and there's no reason why we can't go there and get a point, or even three, if we play like we have before."
Newcastle currently sit fourth in the table, four points behind Ferguson’s side and nine adrift of leaders City.
