Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Richard Stearman will undergo surgery on the broken wrist sustained in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park to Everton.

Stearman suffered the injury after an awkward fall following an aerial challenge with Tim Cahill. He initially underwent treatment at a nearby hospital, where the fracture was reduced, and will undergo surgery this week to repair the damage.

"It was really disappointing for us to lose Stears on Saturday and more importantly, disappointing for him," Mick McCarthy told the club's official website.

"He's going in to have the operation today where he'll have a plate inserted and we'll know more after the surgery."

Steve Kemp, head of Wolves' medical department, accompanied Stearman to hospital on Monday.

"He is going up to be reviewed again today by a top surgeon in the north west and then undergo an operation where he will have a plate inserted," said Kemp.

"Clearly he will face a spell on the sidelines but we will have more an idea of how long after the surgery."
