Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is still hopeful that striker Gabriel Agbonlahor will be able to feature in their trip to Tottenham on Monday.

The pacy attacker picked up a hamstring injury during training whilst on international duty with England, but after reacting well to initial treatments, McLeish believes he still has a chance to make it.

Speaking to Villa’s official website, the former Birmingham City manager said: "Gabby has not joined the group yet but we are hopeful he will be back towards the end of the week.

“I think he has got a chance for Tottenham.

"He has got a slight strain which guys like him, who are sprinters, the explosive guys, can pick up.

"Gabby went to England in good faith and unfortunately came back with this little nick on his hamstring but they did the ultra scan on him and were adamant.

"It was the England medical guys who flagged it up for us."

So far this season, Agbonlahor has six assists and five goals in the Premier League, already two more strikes than he accumulated in the whole of last season.
