Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis is getting close to his best form after a spell out of the first team, according to manager Mick McCarthy.

The pacy winger has been left on the bench in the last two matches - the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City and the 3-1 win over Wigan - after a spell of indifferent form, but was highly impressive as a second-half substitute against the Latics.

And McCarthy is hopeful that the player is getting back to the level of performance that he is capable of.

McCarthy told reporters: "Sometimes it does you a bit of good to come out of the side, although no player will ever think that and say 'thanks' for doing it.

"If it's not working for you, you can keep going and it never seems to get any better. When you are out of the team, you can take stock.

"We know what a good player Jarvo is and he's got more attention since playing for England but he played well when he came on against Wigan."
