Spurs forward says he's surprised to be left out of Fabio Capello's selection to take on Montenegro after good recent performances for his club, but vows to regain his place
Defoe has forced his way back into the Spurs starting line-up at the start of this campaign having endured a torrid time last season, but Three Lions boss Fabio Capello instead opted for Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll, Darren Bent, Danny Welbeck and Bobby Zamora for the trip.
The Spurs frontman admits he thought his good recent form would be sufficient to earn another call-up, but says the omission will only make him more determined to win back his place.
"I am obviously very disappointed," he told reporters.
"I feel I have not let Mr Capello down when I have played, but I will work hard to get my place back."
