Sunderland are reportedly set to battle it out with Wolves for the signature of free agent James McFadden, formerly of Birmingham City

The Daily Mirror claims that the Scotland international is currently on Steve Bruce’s radar, after the 28-year-old failed to agree terms with relegated Birmingham over a new contract.

McFadden, who is just coming back to action following a long term injury that caused him to miss the majority of last season, is currently training with Wolves in a bid to regain his fitness.

With Wolves boss Mick McCarthy having already stated his intention to sign the forward, the fact that McFadden is reportedly keen on remaining in the Midlands with his family is likely to mean that Wolves will eventually agree terms with the player.

However, should any potential move to Molineux break down, Bruce could well be waiting in the wings with a bid to bring him to the Stadium of Light.
