Brian Marwood: Losing Garry Cook was 'a massive shame' for Manchester City

The former chief executive left after it emerged that an offensive email had been sent from his account to the mother of defender Nedum Onouha, but he "will always be welcome" back

Brian Marwood, one of the main executive staff at Manchester City, has commented on the resignation of chief executive Garry Cook who left earlier this month.

Cook was forced into resignation after it was claimed that the chief executive had sent a mocking e-mail to cancer sufferer Dr Anthonia Onuoha, the mother of defender and academy graduate Nedum Onuoha.

Marwood chose to praise Cook despite the controversy surrounding his exit, telling BBC Sport: "[Cook's departure] was a massive shame from a club point of view and a personal point of view. The whole club was rocked by what happened.

"I think everybody in football and close to the club are fully aware of what he has achieved and what the club has achieved in these three years. As the chairman said, he will always be welcome at this football club."
