Old Trafford witnessed an absolutely sensational game on Sunday as Manchester United maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 win over Chelsea - but did it also play host to the worst miss ever?

It seemed as though Chelsea midfielder Ramires would be holding his head in shame having blundered in the first half when presented with a great chance to score by Fernando Torres.

However it was Torres who went one embarrassing step further in the second half.

With the score at 3-1, and the Spaniard having found the target for only the second time since his £50 million move to Chelsea in January, he found himself through on goal against David de Gea.

One brilliant, instinctive stepover later, he was round his compatriot and had an open goal to hit from barely six yards.

What followed will be replayed over and over again, both in Torres' head and by television channels the world over - the Chelsea man, on his left foot, conspired to screw the ball wide of goal.

Manchester United fans lapped it up, howls of derision worked their way down from the Old Trafford terraces, and the fragile Torres confidence took another substantial battering with the world watching.

But is it the worst miss of all time? Do you remember worse happening before?
