'Arsenal failed in deadline day bid to sign Montenegro striker Stevan Jovetic' - former Fiorentina star Roberto Galbiati

An ex-defender of the Florence-based club has claimed that the Gunners tried and failed to land the 21-year-old after seeing their bid rejected by the Serie A outfit
Former Fiorentina defender Roberto Galbiati insists that Arsenal were interested in adding youngster Stevan Jovetic to their ranks.

The Gunners brought in Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Andre Santos, Park Chu-Young and Per Mertesacker towards the close of the transfer window and now it has been claimed that manager Arsene Wenger also wanted the Montenegro international, but failed in a deadline day bid to land the starlet who has also been linked with Chelsea.

"It’s not only Chelsea who want Jovetic, but Arsenal also," Galbiati TV station Italia 7.

"Arsenal, on the last day of the summer transfer market, submitted a bid to Fiorentina but the club refused."

Jovetic had also previously been linked with moves to Napoli, Manchester City and Liverpool, but he eventually remained at Fiorentina as the transfer window slammed shut on August 31.
