Uruguayan striker took to twitter to announce his delight at an international team-mate joining him at Anfield before the transfer has even been confirmed
Coates, 20, is regarded as one of the most talented centre-backs in his age bracket and is understood to be on the verge of signing for the north-west based club.
The defender impressed on international duty for Uruguay during this summer’s Copa America, a competition that his side won with the 20-year-old playing an important role, partnering captain Diego Lugano at the heart of the defence.
Although the transfer has not yet been officially announced, Coates’ international team-mate Suarez has wasted no time in welcoming the Copa America’s ‘Best Young Player.’
Speaking on twitter, Suarez said: “I want to welcome Coates, partner in the uruguayan team, friend and great player who just signed for Liverpool!”
It is believed that the deal could be officially confirmed on Tuesday night with the fee involved reported to be around £8 million.
