Aston Villa midfielder Jean Makoun to join Olympiakos on a season-long loan

Cameroon international set to join Greek side, once the deal has been ratified by Fifa, and could see the former Lyon man face Arsenal in Champions League
Aston Villa have confirmed that midfielder Jean Makoun will join Greek side Olympiakos on a season-long loan, subject to Fifa approval.

The former Lyon favourite is contracted to the Midlands’ outfit until 2014, but since joining in January – then managed by former boss Gerard Houllier – but the Cameroon international has failed to establish himself in the first team.

Having featured heavily for Alex McLeish in pre-season, it appeared that Makoun may gain a more regular place in the side following Nigel Reo-Coker’s free transfer to Bolton, but the Scot has deemed him surplus to requirements for this season at least.

Nonetheless, Makoun shouldn’t have to wait too long to compete with English opposition again, with Olympiakos grouped with Arsenal in the Champions League, along with Marseilles and Borussia Dortmund.
