Trotters centre-back thought to have impressed Harry Redknapp in defeat to Manchester City as Spurs boss looks to bolster his backline before close of transfer window
Tottenham are considering going head-to-head with rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill, according to the Daily Mail.
Harry Redknapp was watching from the stands as Cahill’s Bolton lost at home to Manchester City on Sunday, and the Spurs boss is believed to have been impressed by another composed performance from the 25-year-old.
Redknapp is looking to strengthen his defensive options before the close of the transfer window and is thought to have become frustrated by the lack of movement in negotiations with Blackburn Rovers over the possible transfer of Christopher Samba.
Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Cahill all summer, but boss Arsene Wenger has so far been unwilling to match the £17 million release clause in his contract.
Bolton’s valuation could also prove a stumbling block for Spurs. The north Londoners are likely to propose a player-plus-cash deal as they look to offload fringe members of their bloated squad, with out-of-favour duo Sebastien Bassong and David Bentley the likeliest makeweights.
