Andre Villas-Boas urges Chelsea to complete signing of Anderlecht wonderkid Romelu Lukaku
Former Porto boss believes his new side need to bring in 'great talent' such as the Belgian and says his midfield ranks are well catered for, despite John Obi Mikel's injury

Andre Villas-Boas hopes Chelsea can seal the signing of Anderlecht starlet Romelu Lukaku after the two clubs confirmed an agreement over the forward's fee had been reached.
The Belgium striker has long been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and the Belgian side confirmed less than an hour after Chelsea beat Rangers 3-1 in their final pre-season match that the 18-year-old is poised to complete his switch to the Premier League, pending a medical and an agreement over personal terms.
“The situation is that he is a very, very interesting young prospect and as a club we have to try and position ourselves to get this kind of talent signed," said Villas-Boas.
“This is not only the case with him but the other young talent we are scouting at the moment.
“What I would say is anything can happen with Lukaku.”
The former Porto coach was less willing to discuss Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric, but did say that even with John Obi Mikel struggling with an injury, he still has enough options in midfield.
“I don't know if you have seen, but I’ve been answering a lot about Luka Modric recently and I won’t be making any further comment,” added Villas-Boas.
“I don’t think we are lacking imagination. Imagination comes from getting the most out of the players you have and that’s what we do.
“I think the players are enjoying the freedom that they are getting to try and exploit parts of their game they thought they might have or even didn’t think they had before. This season will be a lot about letting the players find these new things and letting them express themselves.
“Mikel suffered a knock a couple of days ago in training, he had an injection to get through the game but it was getting pretty nasty for him towards the end of the first half so we decided to take him out.
“We will evaluate the situation and make a decision because he is one of the players scheduled to be involved in international duty and I’m sure his national team doctors will also take a look at him. But I’m confident we still have lots of options at our disposal in midfield.”
After a successful first pre-season in charge at Stamford Bridge, Villas-Boas admitted he will be leaving it right down to the wire before making his final decision on his starting side this season.
He added: “No, I have not decided my team yet – it’s going to be a very important week ahead when it comes to making decisions.
“Fernando [Torres] and Didier [Drogba] are away on internationals, [Nicolas] Anelka and [Daniekl] Sturridge are staying so we have a difference there with our forwards.
“Let’s see what the situation is when they get back together and decide on the team then.”
